BREAKING: Former Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy Pushes Steelers to Trade for His Favorite Player in Dallas – A Move Cowboys May Find Hard to Refuse

Posted May 22, 2026

Dallas, Texas – Mike McCarthy, former Dallas Cowboys head coach, who is currently leading the Pittsburgh Steelers, is reportedly aggressively pushing his new team to execute a trade to acquire Sam Williams — one of the players he values most highly from his time in Dallas.

McCarthy, who knows the Cowboys organization inside out after 5 seasons as head coach (2020–2024), believes Williams is the ideal piece to strengthen the Steelers’ pass rush and fits perfectly into Pittsburgh’s defensive system.

Sam Williams, the Cowboys’ second-round selection (pick 56) in the 2022 NFL Draft, has shown tremendous potential even though he has not yet fully exploded statistically.

After four seasons, he has recorded 9.5 sacks, 85 tackles, and 22 tackles for loss. Williams is famous for his explosive athleticism, long arms, quick first step, and strong run defense.

The Cowboys re-signed Williams to a one-year “prove-it” deal worth approximately $2.5–3 million in March 2026.

However, with the EDGE room quite crowded (including Rashan Gary and several high draft picks from 2026) and salary cap considerations, Dallas may consider trading the 27-year-old if they receive a reasonable offer.

For the Steelers, acquiring Williams would allow Mike McCarthy to reunite with a familiar, high-upside EDGE to pair with T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith, adding youth and depth to the defensive front.

McCarthy believes Williams’ athletic traits and untapped potential will make him a long-term cornerstone in Pittsburgh.

Potential trade package: The Steelers could send the Cowboys a second-round pick (around pick 40–50) along with a third-round pick or another depth player. This is considered a fair price for an EDGE with high upside.

Although trading Williams is not the Cowboys’ top priority, the salary relief and additional draft capital could make it difficult to refuse, especially as the team focuses on reshaping its defense.

As the 2026 offseason heats up, all eyes are on the potential negotiations between the Cowboys and Steelers. Acquiring Sam Williams would be a strong statement by Mike McCarthy in his first year with Pittsburgh, immediately upgrading the Steelers’ defense and increasing their competitiveness in the AFC North.

This deal could significantly change the defensive fronts of both teams for years to come and promises to be one of the most attractive trades of the 2026 NFL offseason.

Former Cowboys Fan-Favorite Joins Eagles After Being Released, Sends Message Vowing to Get Revenge on Dallas Twice a Year – The Reason Behind His Resentment Gains Sympathy from Cowboys Nation
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – The Philadelphia Eagles have made waves by signing a former Dallas Cowboys star safety, a player once beloved by the fanbase but whose longtime team decided to move on in the 2026 offseason. The move is a bold step to strengthen the Eagles’ secondary ahead of the 2026 season, while also creating a story full of emotion and drama in the NFC East. Cowboys fans still remember the moments when this player shined with his hard-hitting style and leadership, and his departure has left many supporters disappointed but sympathetic to the tough roster and salary cap decisions the team had to make. Donovan Wilson was drafted by the Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Texas Tech. Over his seven seasons in Dallas, he developed into a reliable starter and fan favorite known for his relentless energy, coverage skills, and big plays in critical moments. He was a key part of the Cowboys’ defense for years and earned respect across the league for his work ethic. Wilson was not retained by the Cowboys entering the 2026 offseason as the team added Jalen Thompson and focused on younger talent in the secondary, leading to his release. He has now officially joined the Philadelphia Eagles — the Cowboys’ biggest divisional rival. The story surrounding Wilson is drawing major attention because of the personal injustice behind it: he had hoped to stay in Dallas and continue contributing after years of loyalty, but the team chose to move in a different direction. That sense of being let go after dedicated service has struck a chord with many in Cowboys Nation, who empathize with his frustration and determination. Donovan Wilson shared an emotional message: “I gave seven years of my heart and soul to the Cowboys and hoped they would give me a real chance to stay. Now that I’m wearing Eagles green, I’m going to give everything I’ve got and make them regret letting me go. Games against the Cowboys are going to mean something extra to me.” In the upcoming season, the Eagles are counting on Wilson to make an immediate impact with his veteran experience, physicality, and playmaking ability — especially in key NFC East matchups. NFL insiders are calling this a smart signing for Philadelphia, which needed proven depth and leadership at safety. Wilson will face his former team at least twice every season, setting the stage for some of the most emotionally charged games on the schedule and a chance at revenge for the opportunity he was denied. His versatility allows him to contribute in the box, in coverage, and on special teams, helping the Eagles improve their defensive efficiency. Eagles coaches describe Wilson as highly motivated, quick to learn new schemes, and a high-character player who will elevate the competition in the secondary room. After the uncertainty of free agency, Wilson has come back more determined than ever, ready to make noise in the 2026 NFL season. Wilson’s story highlights loyalty, determination in the face of setbacks, and that burning desire to prove himself against the team that moved on from him. The 2026 season gives him the perfect stage to leave his own mark — and make the Dallas Cowboys regret their decision to part ways with him.
